Personalized transition support

We’re here to support your academic transition throughout the year. Check out these options to receive personalized support from peers and dedicated staff members.

Meet one on one with the transition program coordinator to receive individualized guidance. Prospective and incoming students, parents, family members and supporters are welcome!

When it comes to supporting students in university, we recognize the importance of including diverse perspectives and lived experiences. At Student Accessibility Services, student ambassadors work with staff and students to advocate for student needs. Plus, ambassadors can address your questions and concerns and help you navigate the university based on their lived experiences at McMaster.

About the Transition Program

The Transition Program supports incoming McMaster students with disabilities and accessibility needs as they begin a new stage in post-secondary studies. Participate in the program to get introduced to university learning, Student Accessibility Services offerings, accommodations and more.

  • Learn how to request and use academic accommodations.
  • Discover services and supports at McMaster.
  • Build self-advocacy skills to grow your confidence in using academic accommodations.
  • Explore and practice learning skills for university, such as note-taking and time management.
  • Learn about assistive technology options and explore what’s available through Student Accessibility Services and Library Accessibility Services (LAS).
  • Practice using McMaster’s online learning management system, Avenue to Learn.
  • Make peer connections and start building your personal community at McMaster.

MacStart Summer Transition Program

MacStart is a free summer program designed to help you transition to university learning. Our goal is to support the needs and interests of incoming students with disabilities.

MacStart is hosted in partnership between Student Accessibility Services and the Student Success Centre (SSC). Visit the SSC website to learn more.
